I have written
in the past about Aristotle’s modes of persuasion in defense of ethical
behavior; in The Equilibrium I’ll gave you the basic idea of that essay.
How did it go? Oh yes! Logos+Pathos=Ethos. In other words:
Logic+emotion=Ethics. The idea is simple, if you were to keep count of what
made you feel bad or something physical hurt you then you can gather that
others might feel the same as you then you might be incline to treat others as
yourself, so others would treat you in a similar manner. That idea would
hopefully create an ethical environment. So, how does that idea involve the Holy
Trinity; The Father, The Son and The Holy Ghost. Well, let us venture off to
figure something that could be right on the money or way, way off.
The Trinity.
Three in one. One is the others and the others being as one. I like to think of
it as a highly self-awareness; in which if one would be highly self-awareness
they would see that there is a difference between their body, mind and
heart/soul. Our body contains our mind and heart/soul; as well shows the marks
that were left by other or ourselves (scars). Our mind see how to reach goals
for the body and heart/soul. Our heart/soul gives a view that can change the
mind or confirm its decision on many manners. The heart/soul is harder to
describe, for there are many mechanism within it. It is the complexity that
which we disregard it and forget about it. We don’t want complexities. What we really
want are simplicities. Another depiction could be, it is the most human of our
being. It cannot be destroyed like our body or mind. It is our true self.
Again, you would be able to see these attributes clearly as you become more
self-aware, which is a must. Don’t worry, I’m not even close to
full-self-awareness. There is the simpler of descriptions, it’s our moral
compass. But, we would have to talk about morality. That would be best for
another time. I have written an essay about Moral Truth, which I will be
posting any day now. I digress.
So, what does
The Trinity have to do with modes of persuasion? Well, the first thing is that
there are three of each and they each have attributes that are shared. God is Logic.
God being the Creator of All. All sciences and reasoning come from Him; so He
is the Father of Logic. Christ is ethics. Christ is the Creator’s manner of
seeing Himself as a person. He is the outward expression of Himself. Which it
is our bodies that hold all the marks of unethical-behavior. All the wrong that
has been done to us; our bodies bear the marks. So, Christ bear all that was
wrong with world on His body. All the marks that scar us, He has as well. So,
He would want to be the most ethical of men. That is why He went to the lost
and not to those who think that they had figured it out. The Holy Ghost is
emotion. In scripture, the writers describe the Holy Ghost as God’s love. It is
the guide to love. If we don’t have love then we don’t understand God. The
Ghost is love and love is the most important emotion to ever have been felt by
man-kind. But, don’t they
all have all those characteristics? You would be right. But, this idea is a bit
eccentric. Which we would keep in count of that God is all knowing and
absolute. That He recognized that embodiment is a necessary thing of this world
or realm. That each one of us truly only embodies one overall idea that makes us,
us. So, in which that is true to us then we were made in His image then He too
embodies an idea.
The problem
that He was faced is that He is too complex (obviously not to Himself) for us
to wrap our heads around and truly knew that one day it would be attempted to
be explained through many medias or people; who or what He is. This would be
the ultimate breaking the fourth wall, because He knew that one day someone
will attempted the explanation and then put in motion before there were people
to attempt to understand His embodiment. So, if we go to where I said the stuff
about us being three in one as He is as well. The mind being of logic and God
of the same nature. The body being of ethics and Christ of the same nature. The
heart/soul being of emotion and the Holy Ghost of the same nature. But, unlike
us; they are separate entities. Which for us; the modes make us up. At one
point, God had had a choice to make that which each part of Himself would be
what part. But, at the same time He already was all the parts and separate
before everything and before He made a the choice to embody what idea and which
part of Him would embody what. Confusing. I know, but that is why we venture
off to unknown things that could be known? Or attempt to.
The question
comes to mind, why? Why would He do this; if indeed He did so. I like to think
that if we were without a verbal and written language; the things of this world
looked carefully could instruct us and those to come. An example of one, is one
that I like to use a lot which is, the dog. All parts of what a dog is made of
is very important to learn and understand. They show us what true loyalty is.
What it means to give all you got to have the time of your life. That you don’t
need anything else, but the ones that you care about. What it means to have a
master? Which is not what we were lead to believe. It is more of a partnership
that both have abilities the other needs. The dog has too many things that we
lack and we have such few things that the dog lacks. The main thing we have is,
direction. God is, to most of us, the guide to the right direction in living.
So, we are the same to the dog as God is to us. The dog is us. Or the depiction
of what we were meant to be. Loyal, loving and no care for anything else, but
for the ones we love. We are to be mirrors of God, but God left to us a mirror
of ourselves here to let us know what was our attained purpose was. The dog.
So, let’s go back to the subject at hand.
God left us
things to draw conclusion from; if we were to ignore Him. But, then again this
is all theoretical. Remember that this is theory and don’t take this as truth,
but as a possibility. So, the whole point of this was to come to a conclusion.
That is the importance of the modes are profound in ways that words could not
do justice to describe. Having those qualities are important to the Creator of
All and we should come to a great awareness of logic, emotion and ethics. We
should allow ourselves to be more in tune with the logic that comes from our
emotions to become a more ethical being.
This is what I
believe in the core of my heart. I believe that we should all embody an idea, a
meaning. If this theory has any truth to it then it might be that we should embody
an idea. T. S. Eliot believed that in this modern day and age; we would have to
have a moral code to just get by. I believe that is so true. Too many times I
see that kids want to be special, but don’t want to do anything to be special.
They just want to be special for the sake of being special. See, this world
needs more that believe in a great purpose; be it God or not. I would argue the
ladder. But, having that belief, of something with a greater purpose, that’s
what could make you and anyone special. Sex, drugs and rock-n’-roll comes and
goes and leaves nothing more than a longing in the soul. Great people embody an
idea. So, I say to you “Embody an idea. A good idea that will help other and
usher in a time of peace and harmony.” That is what I pray for all of you.
